The Importance of Christian Leadership in Times of Crisis

Message delivered by Reverend Major Canute Chambers – President of Jamaica Pentecostal Union Apostolic (JPUA) on April 19, 2020 to more than fifty Apostolic leaders at Yeshua’s House Ministry’s (YHM) Zoom Leadership Forum

Invited participants from Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Florida joined the meeting, starting at three in the afternoon. All were welcomed by audio and or by video into the homes of each other.

Very quickly, the preliminaries were done and the goodly reverend was introduced and given the go ahead to encourage us.

“The importance of Godly leadership is of great value to the people; for preparation, stabilization mobilization and inculcation of faith/hope for gaining victory over the crisis.”

Reverend Chambers was calm but firm. Intermittent interruptions, due probably to bandwidth, took very little away from the key points of his presentation.

“There is always the responsibility of state leadership to respond to crises politically, but the christian leader must respond with a biblical approach. He does it by declaration of the word of God.”

He continued by declaring that, The Christian leader’s response must govern the secular leader’s response.

In closing, Major Chamber who served for forty years in the Jamaican army, now a true soldier of the kingdom of God, quoted from Martin Luther King Jr;

‘The Church must be reminded that it is not the master or the servant of the state but rather the conscience of the state. It must be the guide and critic of the state and never its tool. If the Church does not recapture its prophetic zeal, it will become an irrelevant social club without moral or spiritual authority.’
